  1. A bit late to this thread but to add to the local history. I lived from age 2 in 1941 in Marfleet Lane a couple of minutes away from the old Marfleet Station. I knew the pub as the Red 'ell and it had a "sister pub" in Southcoates Lane nearly opposite Southcoates Lane school called the Blue 'eaven. Lived there till I left Hull to go to London in 1959 before leaving the country in 1966.
  2. Am a QLD supporter so thanks to both of them.
  3. Would Freddie Miller make your all time best team? Was at Hull pre and post war and I watched him from 1945. Old stye fullback with a prodigious kick and drop goal specialist(2 points then). Went to watch him at Wembley hoping for a win in 1952 but Gus Risman's Workington prevailed. Risman was aged 41 at the time! Is the Freddie Miller gate still at the ground?
  4. From the highest Wembley Ashes attendance to the lowest HG. In 1963 the first Ashes test attracted an attendance of 13,946 played under lights mid week. I was there and the Aus team which included Langlands and Gasnier gave us a pasting!
  5. He came to Cronulla for a short period and I went to all the matches he played there. Best memory was his 2 games at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the 1970 Ashes series which GB won to win the series 2-1.(last time GB won an Ashes series). GB were coached by Johnny Whiteley and my namesake played in all 3 games.
  6. Supported Cronulla for 30 years when I lived in Sydney and loved Kurt Sorensen in the years he was there. Dynamic second rower who played with his brother Dane as a prop forward.
  7. Got to bed at around 0230hrs after watching the match and post match coverage. Have been to around 25 CC Finals and as a game that would not be near the top of the best contests I have seen there. Enjoyed it though, so congrats. to both teams on a hard fought encounter.
  8. One truly great standout for me...... Roy Francis. Signed from Warrington in the late 40's he captained and coached us to a golden decade in the 50's with finals coming yearly in competitions including the Yorkshire Cup, Championships, Challenge Cup and winning the European Club Championship. No other decade has produced the same amount of joy for me.
  9. As I have said before this is between my dear old mum's team and my second favourite SL team. Came from Aus. to take mum to Wembley( and London) in 1980 for her first and only time. Decked her out in Rovers colours and I became a Rovers fan for the day. 95,000 saw Rovers beat Hull FC....... Rovers to win is my selection by not too many!
  10. I am a Penrith supporter and agree that this season Edwards form has dropped markedly with Tedesco far superior and on form should have been selected over Edwards. Also a QLD supporter and believe we will have a job on our hands to eke out a win.
  11. Will keep my powder dry until after the SOO series.
  12. Gould has a history of of denying interest in players which has been aired repeatedly by press personnel appearing on NRL 360. No surprise Galvin went to Canterbury-Bankstown.
  13. 6 again penalties against Warriors defending their line in the period before HT were numerous and repeated set after set. Finally the ref found a winger in bright yellow boots encroaching about a meter in front of a long dropout which gave Canberra the chance to level the match with the resultant penalty. Plenty already for whinging Ricky to comment on if they lose this one!
  14. Think calling him NQW or Nqw would work?
