  1. Wow! Germany, beaten by South Korea in 2018 and now Japan in 2022, I hope they don't draw Vietnam in 2026.
  2. I must admit I wasn't looking forward to this morning's match, I thought it would be a non-event as far as a competitive match was concerned, but all credit to Saudi, they really got stuck into Argentina and it's thrown the group wide open. I definitely think Saudi Arabia can take something off of Poland.
  3. Cafu and Eto, who are also legacy ambassadors, have made the same predictions.
  4. Tim Cahill, who is some kind legacy ambassador for Qatar has predicted that England will be knocked out in the 2nd round by.......................................Qatar, who will finish runners up to Senegal and above The Netherlands, in their group.
  5. Wilkins getting sent off and Bryan Robson getting injured seemed to turn England's fortunes, we were forced into changing formation and seemed more fluid rather than the rigid 4 4 2 .
  6. Watching that Maradona first goal go in, my first reaction was anger that it had been allowed, moments later, I, like you, found myself asking, how can any goalkeeper be out jumped by a 5' tall player, whether he used his hands or not, you're spot on about that 1990 semi-final goal as well, as penalties approached, I was hoping they would sub Shilton for Chris Woods, although I don't think we had any subs left. Shilton was also to blame for the Poland goal that knocked us out in qualifying for the 1973 WC, although Norman Hunter seems to take most of the blame.
  7. It's no wonder your first WC memory was boring, that England v ROI game was dire, but not as bad as Lineker's pants when he soiled himself during the game
  8. I watched something similar a couple of years back, the Scottish keeper(think it was Alan Rough) asked MacLeod if there were any Peru players who were dangerous with a free kick from outside the area , "no one to worry about" he was told.
  9. 1986 was the first World cup I watched while drinking alcohol (illegally of course ) but you're right about the Belgium v USSR match though, weren't there some fantastic finishes from the Soviets, not just in this game but throughout the tournament, they looked like real contenders until they came unstuck against Belgium. How good were Denmark in the group games, beating Germany and Scotland then dismantling Uruguay, they looked in complete control in the 2nd round against Spain after taking an early lead, then Jesper Olsen gave a stray pass across his penalty area, straight to a Spanish Striker (can't remember his name but I think he scored 4 goals in this game), after this they capitulated.
  10. Although 1978 was my earliest memory, 1982 is my first proper World cup, I didn't miss a single minute of any game. I too ran home for school to watch England beat France 3 - 1 and apart from a 20 minute spell, England were worthy winners against a quality France team, as far as England were concerned, I thought this is how every future World cup would be. It makes you wonder what difference a fully fit Keegan and Brooking would have made.
  11. What's everyone's first World cup memory, mine is from 1978 and although I'm English, I believed the hype ( Ally MacLeod's hype) that Scotland would win the World cup , I can remember sitting down as a 9 year old to watch Scotland v Peru and thinking, Wow, these Peruvian's look good, although I haven't seen the game since, I seem to remember it could have finished 6 - 6. Other memories from 78 included the iconic BBC theme, Scotland v Netherlands and the ticker tape final
  12. It was a fantastic episode and a fitting farewell to Jodie and Mandip. I also thought it was a perfect bridge between classic and modern Who, I'm sure some fans, who've never seen classic who, will want to find out more about Ace and Tegan, and wasn't it great to see William Russell, at 97 I thought his time had long gone .
  13. The BBC and Doctor Who are to partner with Disney+. While future episodes will be broadcast on the BBC as normal, internationally, Disney+ will be the new home for the show. So contrary to what some people are saying on this forum, the show is not dying.
  14. It's based on performances in the Nations League rather than just rankings.
  15. Top 2 qualify so it shouldn't be a problem.
  16. Any other coach would have been sacked halfway through the season but I think Campbell was too scared of him.
  17. As far as England are concerned, it looks like the ITV curse has now become the Channel 4 curse.
  18. It was aliens , I saw it in a film on the Horror Channel .
  19. Sometimes , I've known programmes on iplayer go down to 3 or 4 days , then renew for another year .
  20. I thought it was players and officials that cheat , not stadiums , has Wembley Stadium got a consciousness , if so , we better warn everybody inside .
  21. She'd only heard of Wigan because of some Dutch football players that played for Wigan Athletic in their Premier League days . Thats the power of football and the Premier League ,
