I have nothing against the English, apart from their ignorant, uneducated, retail service staff, their hopelessly inefficient public transport system, and their dull and unhealthy cuisine in the provincial areas. Traditional English cuisine is incomparably inferior to that of not only France or Italy, but even that of Spain. The English diet has been enlivened by the advent of the spicy South Asian immigrant cuisine. Luckily, because of the European Union and globalism, the English palate has also been relieved by the appearance of French-style baguette sandwich stands at most major London and some regional train stations (copied from the long established originals at French train stations), even if the sandwich menu there includes the decidedly un-French curried chicken.

I know that some of the bad attitude problems the English suffer from comes from their loss of Empire, their dreadful grey weather, and the sense that many socio-economic problems seem insoluble. But I do admire the British grit and endurance under pressure and in a crisis. If it wasn't for the bravery and resolve of the British over the last 70 years, none of us would be able to enjoy the superior pleasures of life in a vibrant free France today.

...... I think that before long Ben Farrar, Scott Dureau, Ian Henderson and Lopini Paea will come to appreciate all of this. Jason Baiteiri already does.

It appears that Ben Farrar is not the final element in the Catalans rebuilding after all.

Steve Menzies and Ben Farrar will now add the Manly connection to Les Catalans lineup.

The Catalans pack is now looking very strong indeed. Lopini Paea will also be important there.

Centres: Ben Farrar, Setamaita Sa, Jean-Philippe Baile, Vincent Duport,

Stand off/Five eighth : Thomas Bosc, Tony Gigot,

Scrum half: Scott Dureau, William Bartheau,

Lock/Loose: Gregory Mounis, Jason Baiteiri,

Second Row: Sebastien Raguin, Dane Carlaw, Jamal Fakir, Cyrille Gossard, Steve Menzies

Props: David Ferriol, Remy Casty, Jerome Guisset, Lopini Paea, Sebastien Martins, Mickael Simon

Hooker: Ian Henderson.

Farrar will be a top quality cover for Greenshields if the latter is injured. He can also play as stand off. Otherwise Farrar will be starting as centre.

Sa can play centre or back row. Carlaw is better as a backrower but can play prop if needed (Six specialist props is not enough for a long season).

The only real weakness there is lack of quality cover for the hooker. Baile is not a specialist hooker and nor is Gigot, who is also not good enough in that position. Kane Bentey should have been retained.

Still this looks like a real playoff side.

Perhaps. That is the weakest part of the lineup.

If they are looking for speed then they go for Vaccari and Blanche. If they want a strong bullocking runner with strong defence then they play Vincent Duport there (he will not be a first choice centre with all the others fit).

The side actually has too many classy backrowers. Apart from Gossard I would not know who to drop from the second row. Carlaw has to be in the first choice side, but so do Menzies and Fakir. So do you drop Raguin, who is a top notch defender and a strong runner with an offload? Embarrassment of riches in the second row.

The pack will be awesome, despite the loss of Elima.
