Based on what you have seen so far (forget the group formats).

Rank the teams 1 to 8 and then it would be a straight forward draw.

1 v 8

2 v 7

3 v 6

4 v 5

My line-up would be:

Australia 1 v Italy 8

New Zealand 2 v Tonga 7

England 3 v Scotland 6

Samoa 4 v Fiji 5

Beat me to it, I was going to start a thread on how all the teams would be ranked. My line up would be:

1 New Zealand   Yes they were rattled against Samoa but they had already won the match

2 Australia        Slow starts against England and Fiji have counted against occupying top slot

3 England         Brilliant in patches and average for large parts of each game

4 Samoa           Toss up between them and Fiji for which nation caused a Big Three nation most concern

5 Fiji                  Led against both Australia and England but possibly not got the attacking options of Samoa

6 Scotland         Great team spirit and have knack of scoring late to win games

7 Tonga            Unlucky not to win all their games

8 Italy                Didn't do too much wrong and plenty of positives

9 USA               When Joseph Paulo plays well they play well, but looked very average v Scotland

10 France         Have only played in patches and need some creativity

11 PNG             Good second half v NZ showed what they could do

12 Cook Islands Entertaining to watch and could easily have ended with more than two points

13 Ireland          Just pips Wales due to standing up to Fijian physicality

14 Wales           Desparate need to find some quality halves and only started playing once it was too late
