Challenge Cup holders Hull FC run out 38-18 winners at the Keepmoat Stadium in the Dons’ final game of pre-season.

On the Dons last tackle, Jordie Hedges chipped the ball over the top of the Hull defence to find the grateful hands of Sam Doherty who was in the perfect position to open the scoring.

The right boot of Jack Miller, unfortunately could not add the extra two. 4-0 Dons.

A near carbon copy of the first try, as a kick from Kyle Kesik found winger Doherty to secure his second try of the game, Miller once again could not add the extra for the hosts. 8-0 Dons.

Hull were not going to give in so easily though, as they pulled a try back on the 14th minute.

Some good footwork from Matt Cook opened a gap for him to feed Callum Lancaster, who duly did the rest.

Jake Connor could not convert his kick from the angle. 8-4 Dons.

Hull were back on level terms with 17 minutes of the first half remaining, a solo effort from Jordan Thompson save him evade a few challenges before sliding over under the posts.

The visitors should have been ahead by two but a routine kick under the posts was sliced wide by Jack Connor. 8-8.

Richard Horne’s side eventually took the lead through Cook, a dummy from Connor threw the Dons defence which allowed Connor to crash over the line.

Hull decided to change their kicker for the next conversion chance, and it paid off as former Halifax man Nick Rawsthorne added the extra points. 14-8 Hull.

The black and whites extended their lead even further on the half an hour mark, a kick over the top eventually found Mahe Fonua who spotted a gap in the Dons defence to squeeze himself over the try line.

Rawsthrone converted once again. 20-8 Hull

The Dons were not down and out, as they picked themselves up and scored a try of their own with six minutes of the half remaining.

Jamie Thackray rolled his defender to slide over the line and bring the hosts back into contention, Miller on his third attempt finally found his shooting boots to add the valuable extras. 20-14 Hull.

Rawsthorne extended his 100% conversion record as he kicked over once again. 32-14 Hull.

The visitors were on the scoresheet again when interchange player Marvin Lee slid over the line, the former Hull KR academy player managed to evade a last ditch challenge to extend Hull’s lead.
