That was certainty a rumour at the time, but also (possibly) quite easily a convenient one....

It was much more than a rumour LTS - just look at the timing of the mess. Clubs would have been in a bad way without their forecast income from Bradford that season, and I am sure that the club would have been better off starting in the lower division.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.
