Apart from the Knights' own coach to the final, the wonderful Heworth ARLFC have their own full coach going. Out of nowhere, Heworth have now got U14 and U16 girls teams in the middle of this season, and they are all going to see their heroes YCK Ladies in action today.

This illustrates the link between participation and fanbase. Especially important in terms of growing a distinct following for women`s RL.

Imagine if Heworth, York Acorn, New Earswick each had up to 20 League Tag teams like some of the clubs in the Cronulla-Sutherland junior league, from under 7s through to under 17s and open age. Where every player was a prospective fan of the Knights women.

Our community clubs could be running thriving League Tag competitions all across the North of England. But we still put all our eggs in the Tackle RL basket.

Salford are top of the Championship and have so far lost one game all year. Will they be able to step up to WSL Div 2?

Salford lost the Championship GF to Oulton Raidettes at Odsal on Sunday. Oulton are a young team who`ve been improving through the season. Whether they want to step up to WSL Div 2 is a moot point.

Also at Odsal, Sheffield beat Illingworth in the League 1 decider and will presumably be promoted to the Championship for next year.

Salford have been promoted to WSL Div 2.

Also in Div 2, Leigh Miners have joined forces with the pro club. Expect they will now be known as Leopardesses. Would hope they will play at LSV.

Better balance across WSL divisions next year. Humberside still AWOL.

Big prize for the game would be a club outside the heartlands well-established in WSL. Very difficult for any candidate in the South where they depend on the availability of Union players. Perhaps could happen if Sheffield continue progressing.
