  • Matt Peet looks ahead to Saturday’s top of the table Super League clash with Catalans Dragons.
  • Peet: “We are going over to challenge the leading team in the competition, and we’ll be looking to put our stamp on the game.”
  • Catalans Dragons v Wigan Warriors, Stade Gilbert Brutus, Saturday 26 August, 6pm [UK].

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Wigan Warriors’ clash against table toppers Catalans Dragons on Saturday evening.

Reflecting on the Warriors’ golden point victory over Hull FC last time out, Peet said: “It wasn’t enjoyable watching it back, but it was less emotional knowing we got the two points. We have to be better, and there’s no shying away from that as it’s coming to the time in the year where we need to have more cohesion and better game management – that’s been the focus of most our work this week.”

Speaking on positives from the Hull FC win, Peet said: “We were good defensively, and had energy and desire, but those things alone aren’t enough. It’s been a week of intense work on and off the pitch to try and fix these areas up.”

Looking ahead to the clash against Catalans, Peet said: “It’s a great test for us – at the right time – as we’ll find out exactly where we are in relation to them. The most important thing is that we are going over to challenge the leading team in the competition, and we’ll be looking to put our stamp on the game.”

Speaking on the preparation ahead of the trip to Perpignan, Peet said: “We’re doing things all the time to best prepare the lads for the conditions. We’ve trained in heat here and altered our hydration and nutrition, but ultimately it’s down to the mindset of the group.”

Peet added: “It’s going to be red hot in terms of the intensity and the weather, but the demands of the game remains the same. Come Saturday it’s about rolling up our sleeves and getting the job done.”

On the travelling support, Peet said: “I believe the turn out’s going to be outstanding, which is one of the great things about the town – it’s something we take very personally. When our fans put their hands in their pockets, and make time to follow us, it’s increased motivation for the team. We want to send our fans home proud by securing the win.”
