Really sad news coming out of South Sydney Rabbitohs today. South Sydney great Nathan Merritt is fighting for his life after being hospitalised on Friday afternoon.

Merritt was found unresponsive and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown.

The 40-year-old is on life support and his condition is listed as serious.

Merritt was one of South Sydney's best and most popular players of the modern era, scoring 146 tries in 218 matches from 2002 to 2014.

The sister of Nathan Merritt has provided an update on the South Sydney Rabbitohs legend, revealing he is still in a “critical condition” on Sunday morning.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday that Merritt collapsed while staying at his aunty when he was found unresponsive on Friday afternoon.

The report claimed Merritt had a serious adverse reaction after he consumed prescribed pain medication.

South Sydney legend Nathan Merritt has reportedly woken from his coma having been on life support since last week.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Merritt emerged from his coma on Friday afternoon and has since spoken with his father.

Merritt is reportedly in a stable condition at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital — where his family have kept a bedside vigil — after he suffered an adverse reaction to prescribed pain medication last Friday.
