Four potential halfback targets for Bradford Bulls

Bradford’s pursuit of a halfback continues to rumble on ahead of 2016.

Harry Siejka’s departure has left a gap in Bradford’s creative department, a hole Jimmy Lowes is keen to fill before the season starts.

When Lee Gaskell and Jake Mullaney were injured last year, the Bulls often looked vulnerable and without a spark. Adrian Purtell did an admirable job at times and could well feature at halfback more often this season, but there’s little hiding the fact that the club is in search of a new organiser.

Halfbacks are few and far between at the minute, but here are four players that Bradford could well look to sign ahead of next season.

Jarrod Sammut

Jarrod-SammutStrongly rumoured with a move to Bradford at the start of this week, a return to Bradford is conceivable.

Sammut has yet to agree terms with current club Workington, and a Yorkshire-based club is thought to be in contact with the Maltese international.

His return would be welcomed by most fans, and one thing he certainly provides is excitement.

Lee Smith

Smith is currently without a club after leaving Wakefield at the end of last season.

He returned to Rugby League with the Wildcats last year after a stint in rugby union, and Smith is thought to be keen on remaining in the 13-man code.

Smith’s versatility would provide Lowes with plenty of options going forward. Not only can he play stand-off, but he can operate anywhere across the backline, which would give Bradford the opportunity to switch the likes of Purtell and Mullaney around if things weren’t working.

Pita Godinet GodinetPita1-6-0415

Another ex-Wakefield man, reports of Godinet moving to Bradford have lingered since his departure from the Wildcats.

Those rumours are thought to be false, but Godinet seems like a good fit for the Bulls.

His intelligence, creativity and Super League experience could be invaluable for the Bulls in their pursuit to get back into the top flight.

Rangi ChaseRangi Chase

Can you imagine the backlash if Bradford could snatch Chase away from Leigh after their endless pursuit of the halfback?

There’s no doubting his qualities, and at Championship level you’d struggle to find anyone better.

Not only that, but to get one over Leigh would delight the Bulls fans.

Whether it’s realistic or not remains unknown, but the Championship would be a better place if Rangi Chase is taking to the field.
