GOOLE VIKINGS have handed a new contract to versatile forward Dean Roberts.
The 29-year-old is another player who hails from the local area, and represented Hunslet, Doncaster and Featherstone earlier in his career.
Roberts arrived midway through last season from Hunslet and went on to make six appearances for the Vikings, including taking to the field just 24 hours after the death of his father.
He said: “I’m over the moon to re-sign with the club. After the year we’ve had, we’re building something really special and I’m buzzing to be a part of it.
“I understand what it means to the area and we’re hoping the whole town gets behind us.
“This Goole team have really given me my love for the sport back — it’s a great club with great people who’ve supported me through a tough year.”
Coach Scott Taylor said: “I think we’ll see the best of Dean this season.
“It was a really tough period for him joining us mid-season, especially with the family events that took over, but the way he handled it and still put his hand up for his teammates speaks volumes.
“At 29 he’s a good age, brings a bit of steel and experience, and his versatility is a big plus. Even now there are still parts of his game we can help refine and I’m confident he’ll become a valuable part of our squad next season.”
