Australia loose forward Greg Bird has predicted that the Kangaroos will win the Four Nations by beating New Zealand in the final.
The World Champions, admittedly not at full strength, lost to their trans-Tasman rivals in convincing style on Saturday, which gives England real hope of knocking off the Aussies at the weekend and going on to win a tournament down under.
However, Bird dismissed Steve McNamara’s men – as well as Samoa – by vowing to get revenge on the Kiwis in the final, even though neither side are guaranteed a spot in it.
“We were aware of what they [New Zealand] were going to bring [on Saturday], it’s not like they surprised us with anything they were doing, it’s just that we weren’t up to it,” he said.
“There were a lot of areas I think we can work on specifically to counter the Kiwis.
“We’ve got a couple of games before we have to come up against them again obviously, but I’m confident we can knock them off.”
Is Bird right? Will Australia get another chance against the Kiwis in this tournament? Or will England be the ones exacting revenge on New Zealand?
