Halifax Panthers boss calls for training standards to be reflected in games

KYLE EASTMOND has called for Halifax Panthers to replicate their performances on the training pitch more often during matches.

The Panthers boss believes he has seen that in glimpses across recent games against Doncaster and Swinton Lions, but has challenged his side to produce a higher standard for longer.

Sunday’s trip to Dewsbury Rams is the second of a run of three away fixtures for the Panthers, who don’t play again at The Shay until August 9 having lost 36-18 at Oldham last Sunday.

And for Eastmond, whose side moved into plus points for the first time since their twelve-point deduction following the win over Swinton the weekend prior, the message is clear: “Win and perform like we train, that’s it.

“There’s nothing else that this team gets told to do other than perform the way that we train, and that’ll be enough. That’s the key.”

Asked what it will take for his side to do that, Eastmond admitted: “At the moment, I’m not quite sure.

“I’m not quite sure whether we understand what it takes to actually get there.

“I think we’re really good at talking about it, and we’re doing it in small periods of the game, which is fine, but the game is 80 minutes, isn’t it?

“The aim is to do what we do for 20 or 25 minutes, but do it for longer periods, and that’s been the challenge.”
