Happy days for the Miners!

LEIGH MINERS RANGERS are the Rugby Football League’s latest Club of the Week.

The Miners enjoyed their 50th birthday with a day of celebration surrounding the recent home fixture with Lock Lane in the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League’s Premier Division.

Former players Tommy Martyn and Martyn Ridyard were among the guests at a lunchtime Question and Answer session, regaling an enthralled audience with tales of successes at St Helens and Leigh Centurions.

Leigh Miners circa 2016 then went on to beat the Lane 48-14 and a memorable day which, in the words of club official Jeff Gorse “could not have been scripted better” closed with an anniversary dinner.

The Miners, who are currently reigning NCL Champions and Minor Premiers, in addition to holding the Conference Challenge Trophy, are on the look-out for more players at all age groups from Under 7s to Open Age, including for their Women’s team, which featured in the recent Challenge Cup Final.
