Hetherington laughs off speculation linking Leeds with players

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has laughed off speculation linking them with a number of new half-backs as has been reported in a number of outlets.

The Rhinos have been linked with the likes of Salford’s Robert Lui and Huddersfield’s Kyle Wood in recent weeks as the transfer market begins to spice up in the off-season.

But Hetherington insisted to the Yorkshire Evening Post that the Rhinos, behind closed doors, remain amused at some of the players they are being linked to.

“It comes as no surprise we get linked with a whole host of players,” Hetherington said.

“It is a great source of amusement for us at the club to see us linked with players when there is no foundation at all. “It is very rare any of this speculation has any foundation at all.”

Only this week in League Express, Salford coach Ian Watson said that he was surprised to read speculation linking Lui with a move to Headingley.

“I went to Rob’s house before he left to go home for a few weeks and he was saying how much he can’t wait to get back and have an improved year next year,” Watson said. “It’s all rumours.”
