Huddersfield Giants hooker close to return

Huddersfield Giants are set to be handed a major injury boost this weekend, as hooker Shaun Lunt could potentially return to action for their clash against Catalan Dragons.

Lunt – who was included in the Super League Dream Team last season after a fantastic 2013 campaign – has been on the sidelines for almost two months with a calf injury, suffering a number of setbacks along the way. But Giants boss Paul Anderson confirmed his injury hell is almost at an end, and he could take to the field this Sunday.

“Lunty’s taken a full part in training today, and it’s now a case of seeing how he comes through,” said Anderson. “So the key now is for him to try and back up this training session with another one tomorrow and then again at the end of the week.

“And it goes without saying we’ll be delighted to get him back. He’s a quality player playing in a key position for us. As a hooker, he’s our first point of contact with the ball.

“Chris Bailey, Luke Robinson, Kyle Wood and Kruise Leeming have all gone into the position and done a good job for us. But everyone will appreciate getting Lunty back out there would be massive for him and massive for the team.”
