Hull FC boss Tony Smith admits forward has rival Super League interest

IT’S that time of the year when those players out-of-contract at the end of the season can now negotiate with other clubs following the May 1 deadline.

One such player that is without a deal for 2024 is Hull FC prop Chris Satae, who has been one of the most consistent forwards for the Black and Whites since joining midway through 2019.

Since then, the 30-year-old has gone on to make 69 appearances for the Black and Whites and head coach Tony Smith has admitted that he wants to keep Satae beyond 2023.

“We would love for Chris to be here and hopefully he will come up with that decision,” Smith told BBC Radio Humberside.

“It is each individual player’s right to look around and assess things and make the right call and I encourage them to do that.

“I only want people who really want to be here and Chris does this year but whether he wants to be here next year is his call and his family’s call.

“It is not straight forward and it is not easy.”

Smith believes that any other that wishes to stay at or join Hull must do so for the right reasons.

“Players have to make forecasts and so do I. We have to try and look in the future to make sure we are on the main track,” Smith continued.

“I want players to make sure that when they decide to stay here it is for the right reasons.

“I’d love for him to be here, he is in great shape and he has worked hard and that’s what attracts attention from other clubs.”
