Hull KR forward handed six-match suspension

HULL KR prop Tevita Pangai Jr has been hit with a six-match suspension for gouging.

It means the Tonga international signed in May will miss the Magic Weekend derby against Hull FC and will be unavailable until the visit of his former club Catalans Dragons to Sewell Group Craven Park on Thursday, August 13.

The 30-year-old former NRL player received a Grade F charge for the incident involving Jake Connor during the 34-8 defeat by Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley.

Pangai Jr was handed 36 penalty points, putting his total to 38.75, and has also been fined.

The former Brisbane Broncos, Penrith Panthers, Canterbury Bulldogs and Dolphins player, who represented New South Wales in the 2023 State of Origin series, was making his third Rovers appearance.

He played 23 times for Catalans last year, and initially looked set to join Warrington Wolves for this season, but pulled out of the move in October.

York Knights secondrow Sam Wood and Catalans centre Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet have been suspended for two matches, both for dangerous contact.

Catalans secondrow Franck Maria has a one-match ban for contact with the head.

St Helens halfback Jackson Hastings will not be punished for touching injured Bradford Bulls player Will Gardiner while checking on his welfare.

Gardiner is recovering after sustaining a concussion in a heavy collision late in the game at Bartercard Odsal.
