HULL KR star Arthur Mourgue has suffered a third serious injury in 2026.
The French livewire will now be sidelined for around six weeks with a broken thumb after already missing most of the 2026 campaign with two pectoral injuries.
The first, sustained in the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos in February, saw him miss three months of action, before a recurrence on his return against Leigh Leopards in May saw Mourgue then sidelined for a further two months.
The Frenchman returned to the side at fullback in the defeat to Warrington Wolves almost two weeks ago, before he switched to halfback in the absence of Mikey Lewis for last Thursday’s win over Hull FC.
But Mourgue suffered a broken thumb in the second half of the derby, and could even be out for longer than six weeks if the club chooses surgery.
Hull KR boss Willie Peters said: “My understanding is that it’s another five or six weeks.
“I don’t have all the information yet because we’ve got another scan, which will tell us whether he needs surgery or not. That then determines how long he’ll be out for
“He’s had such an unlucky season this season. Just talking to him before, he had minimal injuries in his time over in France, and here he put a lot of games together (last season).
“This year has just been unfortunate. There are injuries that you can help (prevent), but certainly with his injuries, it’s just been unlucky. It’s unfortunately the part of the game we all don’t like.
“I never like seeing players get injured, especially guys that go back-to-back with injuries.
“It’s not a good time for Arthur at the moment, but he’s a great kid, and he’s a great person. He’ll be okay.”
Peters said that Ryan Hampshire will replace Mourgue for Friday’s visit of Bradford Bulls.
