WILLIE PETERS will stick with his new-look spine for Friday’s home clash with Bradford Bulls.
Hull KR have been forced into a change by the four-match ban given to Mikey Lewis for two separate offences in the Robins’ round-19 defeat at Warrington Wolves.
England halfback Lewis was punished for a headbutt on Adam Holroyd and a late tackle on Ewan Irwin, and won’t play again until the rearranged return fixture with Warrington on Tuesday, August 18.
For the first of those games without him, Thursday’s 30-24 victory at rivals Hull FC, Arthur Mourgue was shifted to halfback, playing alongside Tyrone May.
Jack Broadbent came into the team in Mourgue’s fullback position, while hooker Jez Litten took on much of the kicking responsibility in general play.
While not always effective, Peters was happy enough with what he saw from his new playmaking unit.
Speaking about French star Mourgue, the coach said: “He went better as the game went along.
“At the start he looked nervous, he tried to rush things when he needed patience, but he found his groove.
“And I thought Jack Broadbent was great. He ran a lot of metres.
“We were not perfect with the ball but we still scored points.
“We’ll stick with it (the spine) for the next game. There was enough there to show that the combination can improve.”
That means Jack Charles’ wait for a Super League appearance in Hull KR colours will go on.
The 20-year-old joined from Hull FC – where he played 23 senior games – ahead of this season but is yet to build on the single appearance made against amateurs Lock Lane in the Challenge Cup in February.
