Hunslet add experienced halfback to squad

HUNSLET are backing Dan Abram to lead their team next season after recruiting the halfback from Swinton Lions.

Abram has over 200 career appearances to his name across spells with Barrow Raiders, Whitehaven, Rochdale Hornets, Oldham and Swinton.

He has spent the past four seasons with the Lions put fell out of favour there this year and returned to Whitehaven on loan in July.

The 29-year-old can play any position in the spine but Hunslet, who are looking to bounce back from a disastrous season which saw them finish bottom of the Championship with just two wins, are keen to utilise Abram in the halves.

Head coach Kyle Trout said: “After meeting with Dan, it was clear he is a great fit for the environment we are looking to cultivate here at the South Leeds Stadium.

“Dan is a fantastic player with speed and skill and is also an excellent goal kicker.

“He has a wealth of experience and is a great character, and we see him playing a key role for us as we move forward.”

Abram has been a frequent points scorer throughout his career, notching 1,216 to date from 56 tries and 496 goals.

“I am excited to be joining Hunslet – it’s a club with a great history and a passionate fanbase,” he said.

“As soon as I spoke to Kyle, I knew this was the right move for me. I am really excited about what Kyle and the club are looking to build going forward.

“I am grateful to be at the club for 2026 and looking forward to getting stuck in and playing a part in a successful season for Hunslet.”

Abram, who could form a halfback partnership with the recently recommitted veteran Lee Gaskell, is Hunslet’s fourth new addition.

They have also signed Oldham winger Mo Agoro, Rochdale Hornets loose-forward Emmerson Whittel and Sheffield Eagles prop Eddie Battye.
