‘Front up’ – Chris Chester lambasts Castleford Tigers following Leigh Leopards thrashing

CHRIS CHESTER has promised changes at Castleford Tigers following their 46-6 thrashing by Leigh Leopards.

The Tigers were dismal from the first whistle as Adrian Lam’s men looked like they were merely going through the motions to earn victory.

And Chester has spoken out about the issues facing the club and the players at his disposal.

“I think the be all and end all is the game was done at half-time. Physically, we’re nowhere near,” Chester said.

“Leigh have got a very, very simple game plan at times, and you know what’s coming. You’ve just got to front up and get your bodies in front, and we didn’t do that for that first 40 minutes.

“And then in the second half, we compounded a couple of errors there, and I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to say anymore to these boys. I feel like a stuck record at times.

“I think I said in the press, there were four dress rehearsals for the new coach and there’s nobody really that came out of tonight’s game without any credit.”

Chester revealed that he will be speaking to new head coach Ryan Carr to discuss the changes needed.

“I’ve got a meeting with Ryan in the morning and we’ll discuss what needs to change and I think it’s pretty obvious what needs to change,” he said.

“I think the mindset of this group, they’ve always done this, they’ve always done that.

“Well, look what “always done” has done, look where it’s got us. And that’s what we’ve got to change. I’m not just talking to players on the field, I’m talking off it as well.

“We spoke about where we’re at as a club and it’s sad really. We know we’ve got to rebuild.

“We’ve got a passionate board of directors and I want some passionate players.

“Do you know what? I want some men. I want some men that are going to front up every week.

“I’m very, very optimistic in 2026 that we will be there or thereabouts and if we’re not then you know I’ve not done my job.

“I’m already looking now at 2027 and what’s available so we’ve just got to ride it out. We’re on this journey together as a club.

“There’s three more games here and it’s the last time that these guys will ever play a game of rugby together as a squad. We’ve just got to make sure we enjoy these next three weeks.”
