‘Inspirational’ Josh Charnley hailed after breaking Super League record

ADRIAN LAM paid tribute to Josh Charnley after his three tries against Bradford Bulls took him one beyond Ryan Hall as the greatest try-scorer in Super League history.

“He was pretty inspirational today,” said the Leigh Leopards coach after their 38-12 victory.

“His first two tries typified him, with a little bit of late footwork. It’s a privilege to have him in my team and as a part of our club.

“Josh works really hard and off the field he is very popular within the group.

“It’s incredible for him to be in front at this stage with so much of the season left. I know it’s going to be back and forth between those two for the rest of their careers.”

Charnley came off injured late on but Lam said he could still feature next Friday at Hull KR.

“Both Josh and Lachan (Lam) had trouble with lacerations that needed eight-to-twelve stitches in them after the game,” he said.

”It doesn’t often happen and we’ll have to see what happens with a short turnaround.”

Lam pronounced himself very happy with their comfortable victory.

“It’s nice to get near the top six – we are only two points behind third place now,” he said.

“Although we’ve worked very hard to get back into this position, there’s still a lot of hard work to do.

“But we were pretty focused today.”
