Salford Red Devils has declared the introduction of marquee players into Super League as a “great day” for the competition, and says that it’s the right time for the move.
The ruling was rejected on three previous occasions before finally going through with an 8-4 majority on Wednesday, and Koukash told Sky Sports that at long last, Super League can compete with rival competitions and codes for the best players across the world of rugby.
“It was a great day for Super League. For the very first time, the sport can go out and compete with the NRL and rugby union for top-quality rugby players,” Koukash said.
“Now teams like us, for example, can go out and bring in big, big names and bring them back to the sport.
“It’s probably the right time for it, and everybody recognises the need for it, because we have been losing our top talent into union, etc.”
