Jamaica international prop joins Workington Town

WORKINGTON TOWN have signed former Barrow Raiders forward Delaine Gittens-Bedward.

The 24-year-old spent two seasons with Barrow, making 18 appearances, following previous spells with Midlands Hurricanes and London Skolars.

A once-capped Jamaican international, Gittens-Bedward initially agreed to join Workington late last year, before receiving an opportunity with Leigh Leopards over pre-season.

Town coach Jonty Gorley explained: “Leigh offered Delaine a full-time trial-and-train pre-season with a view to signing him.

“As always, we didn’t stand in the way of a player who had a chance to pursue his dreams and we supported Delaine to go to Leigh.

“About two weeks ago Leigh informed Delaine there wasn’t anything for him right now so I was keen to get him back to Town and Delaine was keen to come back.

“He’s an athletic, powerful middle who’s good on both sides of the ball. Delaine will bring some more Championship experience to us and he’s fit and ready to go after doing Leigh’s full-time pre-season.”

Gittens-Bedward joins fellow prop Bear Williams, who had been with Warrington Wolves, in signing for Town after a Super League trial.
