Jim Lenihan admits ‘underestimating’ key facet of Huddersfield Giants’ issues

JIM LENIHAN has admitted that he ‘underestimated’ the lack of confidence that is present at Huddersfield Giants from continually losing.

The Giants sit bottom of the Super League ladder with just two wins during the 2026 campaign.

Luke Robinson parted ways with the West Yorkshire club earlier in the year, with former Gold Coast Titans assistant Lenihan joining back in May.

He has yet to steer the Giants to a victory and he believes his side are fearing making mistakes.

“I probably underestimated the confidence that happens from continually losing,” Lenihan said.

“We’ve got to make sure we are feeling confident, upbeat and having a good time.

“Football is a fun game, we started playing it at a young age because it was fun so we’ve got to get back into that mindset and not fear the failure.”

Lenihan also believes that the fear of failure is Huddersfield’s biggest challenge.

“It is as much mentally at the moment. Even in training, if something goes wrong we fear a little bit of failure.

“The panic stations start going but we are going to make mistakes in training at different times and that’s ok.

“It’s a chance to learn from it and get better. We need to keep backing up and going again and that’s as much resilience as it is working hard.”
