Salford aim for consistency in closing stretch of season

SALFORD forward Reece Stanton says more consistency is key as Dave Hewitt’s team tries to climb the table.

After beating Halifax and North Wales in succession, the CorpAcq Stadium side have lost their past two matches against Doncaster (44-16) and Hunslet (22-12).

That puts their record at five victories from 15 league matches since the current ownership group succeeded in the race to make this season’s starting line.

Stanton, who has had spells in Wigan’s Academy and Leigh’s second string, joined from community club Wigan St Judes and is enjoying the challenge of the Championship.

“At the beginning it was a group who had never played together,” he said.

“We are giving our all, it’s in the DNA of the club to do that. There is a commitment to give back to the fans, not give up on any games and go to the final hooter.

“I think the commitment has been there in every game but now it’s about fine-tuning our skills, putting things together and keeping them going for longer instead of having ten-minute good spells and then ten minutes of slacking off a bit.”
