WORKINGTON TOWN coach and future head of rugby Jonty Gorley sees new recruit Jaiden Tallantire as a genuine star of the future.
Gorley believes forging closer links with local amateur clubs is a key part of the role he will take on after handing the reins of the team to former Super League and current Barrow forward Brad Singleton at the end of this season.
Having sealed the signature of Australian hooker or halfback Harry Fraser for 2027, he then agreed a deal to 2028 with 18-year-old Tallantire, who has been a shining star for Seaton Rangers, based to the north of Workington, after previously spending time at another nearby community club Hensingham as well as in the Hull FC development system.
Having been training with Town under Gorley’s guidance, the fullback, who can also play centre or stand-off and represented England Community Lions in this year’s European Under-19 Championship held in France, featured in the recent defeats to Rochdale and Widnes, scoring a try against the Hornets.
“Jaiden first came to us in the middle of the 2025 season to assist him in his preparations for the England Community Lions tour programmes,” said Gorley.
“He immediately impressed me just by the way he was slotting into fullback and halfback seamlessly for a young lad. He’s confident and communicates well.
“This year he did the full pre-season with us and his fitness was up to speed. He has carried on training and did well over in France.
“Everyone involved in his development should be applauded. He is a great young man and we look forward to seeing him excel as a professional player. We’re delighted he is with us.”
Workington, who have taken Castleford utility back Harrison Jewitt on loan, host neighbours Whitehaven on Sunday.
