League Talk: Warrington Wolves swap kits for kitchen

Warrington Wolves’ squad swapped their playing kits and rugby pitch for aprons and a restaurant kitchen earlier this week in an exclusive fans’ evening at Nando’s Warrington.

Both the club and restaurant are at the heart of the town and joined together to give Wolves’ supporters a once in a lifetime opportunity to be cooked for and served by their club heroes.

With only two sittings, and a limited number of places for both, tickets were snapped up in a matter of days.

Those lucky enough to get a ticket for the one-off event had the opportunity to get autographs and photographs with the players plus the chance to win big in the raffle with signed Wolves’ shirts and ‘A Year’s Free Nando’s’ vouchers up for grabs.

Wolves-in-Nandos-AtkinsSupporter Paula James said: “It was fantastic. We’re so glad we got our tickets early, especially as it was a sell-out. It’s such a unique opportunity to see players in such a social and intimate venue, especially when they are the ones serving you. We loved it. It flipped the typical situation where you see and meet players on its head and we got to spend good quality time with them all. We hope the club do things like this again.”

The players faced the challenge head-on and enjoyed interacting with the fans away from the stadium environment.

Young Wolf Tom Walker said: “It was great. At first I was a little shy as I’ve never done this before but once I got into the swing of things, and got my head around which table was where, I really enjoyed it.”

Halfback Richie Myler added: “It’s great to meet our fans one on one. We always love spending quality time with them when we can and this was such a great opportunity to do so. They are so much fun and their passion for the club and the team shines through and gave everyone a real boost ahead of Friday’s game.”

Adam Atkinson, general manager Nando’s Warrington, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended. We had a fantastic evening. For us here at Nando’s, being part of our community and nurturing young talent is extremely important, so working alongside the Wolves, helping to raise vital funds to support the growth of such a fantastic club has been a pleasure. We can’t wait to work with the club again and look forward to seeing you at the restaurant and at the games very soon.”
