LEIGH LEOPARDS head coach Adrian Lam has eased fears of a potentially serious injury to star fullback David Armstrong.
The 25-year-old left the field in the record-breaking win over Bradford Bulls last weekend at half-time with a knee injury, prompting fears he had suffered another ruptured ACL.
Armstrong, who has scored eight tries in 15 appearances for the Leopards this season, only returned from a year out with that injury in May.
Though the outside back is set for time on the sidelines with three weeks of the regular season remaining, Leigh are hopeful that he will be back available for the play-offs.
“Davey Armstrong I replaced at half-time because it was precautionary,” Lam said of the former Newcastle Knights flyer.
“It’s good news because he hasn’t done any further damage so it was just a further strain on the ACL reconstruction.
“We need to make a call on him, but it’s good news that it hasn’t happened again.
“It’s a massive relief for everyone and the rest of the squad has got through.”
Lam believes Leigh are in the best place they have been in throughout the course of the current campaign given their consistent injury crisis.
“We’ve still got Tesi Niu and Bailey Hodgson out and potentially Davey Armstrong,” he explained. “But with all the things we have been through this year, we’re in a good position.
“After the great away win at Leeds (20-16), I wanted to see a response from that and understand where we are as a club and see if we could be professional against Bradford – I thought we were brilliant.
“But, I’m a realist and the minute you fall in love with yourself, it can go sour. It’s important we keep our feet grounded.”
