SCOTT GALEANO is embracing the step up in physicality of his move from wing to centre at York Knights.
The 28-year-old, who scored 21 tries in 23 appearances for the Knights in the Championship last season, has ten so far in his maiden Super League campaign – three behind top-scorer David Nofoaluma.
After starting the campaign on the wing, he played six times at centre before suffering a groin injury, then returned to the role in Sunday’s defeat to Leeds Rhinos.
“I don’t mind it,” admitted Galeano, who regularly turned out at centre for Sunshine Coast Falcons before his move to the UK midway through the Knights’ 2025 record-breaking season.
“I probably found a home on the wing at the beginning of the season, but now I’ve been shuffled into the centres.
“It’s a lot harder physically, with more tackles.”
Carrying strong out of backfield is the cornerstone of the Australian’s game, and he stressed: “It’s still a part of my job to try and get the boys on the front foot.
“The back five; Toa (Mata’afa), Nof (Nofoaluma), Benno (Jon Bennison), there’s some quality there to get us going.
“I try and do my part, but we’ve got players there with good yardage carries in the team.”
Though the step up to Super League has undoubtedly brought with it challenges for the Knights, Galeano believes that facing tough opposition has only served to improve the squad.
“It’s been an education,” he explained.
“Luckily, we’ve got some players in the squad with NRL and Super League experience.
“It’s been a big step up from the Championship last year, but I’m really enjoying it.
“Going up against better players every week – it doesn’t matter who you play, it’s always a tough game and a tough match-up – so naturally, that makes you a better player.
“Every week in Super League, you’re coming up against great players.”
