JIM LENIHAN played down Huddersfield’s record as the most successful team at Magic Weekend ahead of Saturday’s showdown with York.
The Giants have won eight of the last 10 games they have played at the event, including last year’s triumph over Hull FC.
But Lenihan, still seeking his first win at the helm, didn’t want to put too much emphasis on that record, insisting:“We don’t want to put the mocker on us too strong.
“I wouldn’t have known until somebody told me. Hopefully we can find a win.
“We’re a side at the moment that’s trying to win every weekend that we play. It’s a nice occasion, and I’m sure every side, York included, are really excited about being a part of Magic Weekend.”
Huddersfield came the closest they have been to victory under Lenihan on Sunday, pushing Wakefield all the way in a thriller that was eventually settled by Josh Rourke’s interception at the death.
Despite a ninth successive defeat, the club is heading in an upwards trajectory, with the head coach pleased with the improvements he has seen from his side.
“I think we’re a club that’s trying to find our identity and if we want to become a tougher football team, we’ve got to find some adversity to work through,” he said.
“We put ourselves in a good position to win the game, and we lost it at the very death, so it’s just another scar that we’ll get over.
“Whether we won or lost, won by 20 points or lost by 20 points, the direction is clear on what we’re trying to achieve and where we’re going.
“It would have been really lovely to win and it would be really lovely to win this weekend, but there’s certain things that we’re chasing in our game to build what we want to build in the future.”
