Leuluai rejects links with St Helens

Former Wigan half-back Thomas Leuluai has played down rumours linking him with a return to Super League with St Helens in 2017.

Reports emerged last week that suggested Leuluai was a target for the Saints as they plan their recruitment for 2017, with speculation he would sign at Langtree Park next season.

However, the New Zealand Warriors and Kiwi star has told media in New Zealand that he’s got no idea where the rumours have come from.

“I don’t know where that’s come from,” Leuluai told the New Zealand Herald.

“I suppose people put it together with me having a kid and a wife from England.”

However, Leuluai did admit that he’ll likely return to Super League at some point – but has stressed that it will not be with St Helens next year.

“I’ve seen people are talking about it and they know that eventually I’ll go back but I haven’t talked to anyone at St Helens.

“I’m really enjoying my time (at the Warriors). I’ve got this year and next year.”

The Saints this week confirmed their intention to discuss a new deal with current scrum-half Luke Walsh, which would again calm any talk of Leuluai arriving at the Saints.
