Lizzie Jones hopeful of more heart research in the future

Lizzie Jones has admitted she hopes her late husband Danny’s tragic death last year can be the catalyst for more support to be pledged towards heart research in the UK.

Jones tragically passed away during a Keighley match against London Skolars last year, after suffering a cardiac arrest minutes after being substituted due to feeling unwell.

The 29-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest which was caused by a previously undetected hereditary heart disease.

And Lizzie – who sang a stunning rendition of Abide With Me at Wembley last year – now wants more support for previously unknown conditions in a bid to raise awareness.

“I just hope that by telling Danny’s story more support will be given to finding new treatments for these conditions that could one day benefit my children.

“It just didn’t occur to me that a seemingly fit and healthy athlete like Danny could ever be struck down with a heart condition.

“It goes to show that it can happen to anyone.”
