Another of Rugby League’s worst-kept secrets is set to be revealed later this week, after North East media have reported that Magic Weekend 2015 is confirmed to be heading to Newcastle.
St. James’ Park will host the showpiece event after the event was confirmed to be moving away from Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium – with Newcastle reportedly beating off interest from former venues Edinburgh and Cardiff.
The unique event has been held in Manchester for the last three years, with the Ethiad hosting in 2012, 2013 and this year in 2014.
Expected to be held at the end of May once again, it is a huge boost for the game in a region where rugby union has traditionally held a strong foothold.
The news is expected to be confirmed as early as Wednesday.
