Manfredi facing lengthy layoff following ACL injury

Dom Manfredi could miss the Four Nations after Shaun Wane expressed fears that he had damaged his ACL.

The young winger, who has scored 15 tries this season, was helped from the field early in the first half after taking a powerful tackle from Rangi Chase.

Manfredi received treatment for several minutes before leaving the field, and didn’t return thereafter.

And following Wigan’s 36-22 defeat to Castleford, Wane told the media that it appeared Manfredi would be out for a long period of time.

“It’s an ACL I think, it’s a bad one. He got knocked out. He’ll get it scanned but it doesn’t look good.”

When asked about the tackle by Chase, Wane said: “The referee didn’t think so (that it was legal) and it was too quick for me.”

Meanwhile, Wane was left disappointed with his side’s start to the match, which contributed to their defeat.

“Our defence started soft but we gripped the game after half-time and went at Castleford but they deserved the win – they were the best team.

“Both teams want to finish the season off strong but we need to be a lot smarter and start games better. There are lessons to be learned before next week’s game against St Helens – that’s a big game.”
