Super Solomona helps Castleford defeat Wigan

Castleford kept their slim hopes of a top four spot alive thanks to a 36-22 victory over Wigan.

A Denny Solomona hat-trick helped the Tigers topple the Warriors for the first time in five attempts this season, leaving Shaun Wane’s side two points adrift of league leaders Hull.

Daryl Powell’s side went 12-6 ahead by half-time following tries for Solomona and Paul McShane, with Sam Powell scoring for Wigan.

Solomona then completed his hat-trick either side of a Ben Flower try, and when Luke Gale kicked a penalty, Cas looked to have a commanding lead at 26-12. But Wigan clawed their way back into the match thanks to tries through John Bateman and Lee Mossop, cutting their deficit to 26-22.

Cas were forced to absorb heavy pressure, but late tries through Wigan loanee Ryan Hampshire and Oliver Holmes secured victory.
