Manly sack jailed Jamil Hopoate

NRL club Manly Sea Eagles have sacked their second player in just over a week, after they cut Jamil Hopoate from their playing squad – just hours after he was jailed for assault.

Hopoate – who is the son of former NRL star John – was sentenced to at least a year in prison for an assault on Valentines Day earlier this year. And the Sea Eagles confirmed on Thursday that they had terminated the contract of the 20-year-old.

Last week Manly tore up the contract of prop Zane Tetevano after his court appearance on domestic violence charges.

Hopoate’s brother and Parramatta star Will offered a message of support on social media for the sacked player.

“We still a team amongst the challenges.. I love my brother jhopoate #hopoate #family,” he posted on Instagram along with a photo of Jamil and his siblings with father John.
