Former Castleford Tigers forward Frankie Mariano has insisted he still has plenty to offer Super League as he hunts a new club for 2017.

The 29-year-old was released by the Tigers at the end of last season after an injury-ravaged two years, which saw his opportunities limited under Daryl Powell.

Mariano is yet to find a new home for next season, although League Express understands there have been tentative expressions of interest – and the 29-year-old has promised he will be an asset to anyone who wants to sign him up following his excursions with Scotland.

“I can guarantee I’ve definitely still got something to offer,” Mariano told League Express.

“I’m only in my sixth year of being a professional. Age is just a number anyway, I feel in great shape. “Playing for Scotland is huge for me to show my worth to someone.

“I’m putting my eggs in one basket really, as I’ve got something to prove to show I can be an asset to someone.”

Mariano revealed that he is now fully over the injury problems that have dogged him for the last two years and he admits his preference would be to stay full-time rather than revert to playing part-time in the Championship.

“The first day in camp with Scotland was the first day of training I’ve had since the injuries cleared up,” he said. “It’s been great, it’s been a good test for me and getting my debut for Scotland against England was incredible.

“Every professional player wants to stay full-time, that’s a no-brainer. But you can only take what you’ve got, and if I have to go part-time to make an impression on someone, that’s what I’ll do.

“There’s no way I’ll give up – I believe at my age and having got over my injuries, I can definitely offer something positive in 2017.”
