New Zealand legend Benji Marshall will make his return to Rugby League with the Cronulla Sharks, unless St George-Illawarra Dragons submit a formal offer by Friday.
The former Wests Tigers half-back, 29, secured an early release to his contract with rugby union outfit Auckland Blues last month after less than a season in the other code.
After being pursued by several NRL powerhouses, he has narrowed his choices down to the Sharks and the Dragons, but only Cronulla have made a formal offer.
Marshall says he wants to make a decision on his future by the end of this week so has enforced a deadline to the club, which is also home to England star Gareth Widdop, who said he would welcome Marshall with open arms.
It is understood the Dragons need to shift a player from their squad to accommodate Marshall and this is the reason for the delay. There is speculation a forward may be heading to England to join a Super League club.
