Matt Peet ‘very disappointed’ by Wigan Warriors collapse

WIGAN WARRIORS boss Matt Peet couldn’t hide his disappointment after seeing his side give away a sizeable lead to lose the derby late on to St Helens.

“I’m very disappointed to lose the game and in the manner we did,” he said.

“We put ourselves in a position to win without ever really being at our best for long periods and then we weren’t clinical enough to see it out. In the end, we got what we deserved.

“I thought we were coming out the right side of the energy battle at half-time. I knew we’d have to be better to win but then we just clocked off.”

Although frustrated with his own side, Peet was quick to praise his opponents for never giving up.

He added: “They kept asking questions of us and we had a few moments where our defence was erratic which led to too many penalties and quick rucks but overall you have to credit them.

“I knew that St Helens would continue to move the ball and chance their arm and there were times where they created extra numbers and we just had to defend it well, but we didn’t do it for the full 80.

“The players are the ones doing most of the talking after that. They’ve owned it and it’ll be the response that’s important.”
