Morgan McWhirter extends Widnes Vikings contract

WIDNES VIKINGS have extended the contract of a second player in a matter of weeks, with Australian forward Morgan McWhirter putting pen to paper for next season.

The 24-year-old’s retention follows that of winger Ryan Ince, who agreed new terms until 2028.

Former Queensland Cup player McWhirter was a May 2025 arrival after playing in France’s Super XIII competition for Limoux.

Back in Australia he had spells at Mackay Cutters, Sunshine Coast Falcons and Townsville Blackhawks.

Popular McWhirter can play a variety of pack roles and also works for the club’s foundation.

“I’m extremely grateful to the club for the opportunity to stay around for a little longer, and I’m really excited for what lies ahead,” he said.

“This club gave me an opportunity when not many others were willing to, and coming from France as a bit of an unknown, and now I want to repay them.

“Having the job with the foundation helps keep me occupied around footy. It’s one of those gigs that’s very rewarding.

“Everyone seems to give good reviews and enjoy what I’m doing for the town, so it helps me and it helps them.”
