NINE players have been confirmed to be leaving Wakefield Trinity ahead of what is expected to be a season in Super League in 2025.
As already announced, Luke Gale and Jermaine McGillvary will hang up their boots following the conclusion of Trinity’s play-off campaign.
Captain Matty Ashurst has also confirmed that he will move on after 10 years playing for Wakefield.
Meanwhile, the club have also confirmed the departure of a number of other first-team players.
Josh Bowden, Derrell Olpherts, Iain Thornley, Toby Boothroyd, Romain Franco and Ethan Wood will all leave the club at the end of 2024.
Bowden joined Trinity midway through the 2022 season from Hull FC and has gone on to make 52 appearances in the Red, White and Blue of Wakefield across his two-and-a-half seasons.
Olpherts currently sits on top of the Championship try scoring charts having scored 22 tries so far in the competition having joined Trinity after the start of the 2024 season.
33-year old Thornley joined the club on a one-year deal from Wigan Warriors and has made 21 appearances this year.
Australian Toby Boothroyd signed in 2024 from Cronulla Sharks. Despite a number of injuries limiting his rugby, the 22-year old back-rower has played in 11 games throughout this season but will move on at the end of the season.
Romain Franco is currently on loan at Bradford Bulls and will leave Wakefield after joining midway through the 2023 season. The Frenchman has played in nine games for the club, scoring seven tries.
