NRL in line for lucrative AU$4 billion TV deal

THE NRL are set for a gargantuan AU$4 billion TV deal, double that of their current contract.

That’s according to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, which has reported that the new TV deal would be worth AU$800 million per season – or around £420 million.

When compared to that of the current Super League broadcasting rights, the difference is remarkable – the contract which concludes this season sees the European competition receive just £22 million per year, down from £40 million at the turn of the 2020s.

The chief of the Australian Rugby League Commission, Peter V’landys, has overseen a dramatic rise in popularity of the NRL, with profits of over AU$60 million in 2025.

And V’landys is confident that the next TV deal, with the current one running until the end of 2027, will be the most lucrative on record.

“This (TV rights contract) will be a record deal and I expect it be done in the next six months,” V’landys told The Daily Telegraph.
