NRL to announce interchange changes next month

NRL head of football Todd Greenberg has confirmed that a reduction in the amount of interchanges used in the competition could be announced within the next month.

The NRL has long been in discussions over lowering the number of interchanges from ten down to eight or even six recently, and Greenberg says the announcement over changes are now imminent.

Greenberg and the NRL have been discussing the plans in detail with leading sports professor Kevin Norton, and he described the move as “fascinating”.

“We’re not far away. We’re collating our final reports at the moment,” Greenberg said on 2UE.

“(Norton is) an expert in his field on the impact, the collisions, across sports and measuring fatigue.

“It’s a fascinating piece of work that is a first for our sport in rugby league.”
