Paul Rowley full of praise for patched up St Helens

St Helens coach Paul Rowley

ST HELENS coach Paul Rowley was full of praise for his patched up side as they overcame a wobbly start against Bradford Bulls at Odsal to record an ultimately comfortable 40-10 victory.

“I enjoyed that game,” he said.

“To have a man down – sin binned in the first half when I felt we gave away too many penalties – too much yardage I thought the way we responded was fantastic.

“The penalties were the fix-up.

“Our last plays – our kicks were landing in the right spots and apart from all the penalties we were good in the first half.

“Once we cut those out the pressure began to tell and we got our reward for that.”

Rowley was particularly impressed by the performances of three of his players.

“I thought Jack Welsby was brilliant – probably his best game, Alex Walmsley was brilliant, Hosty (Jacob Host) was fantastic.

“When I go through the team individually I thought there were some really top performances and to still have half of what would have been our starting line up at the beginning of the season out was really good.”
