LEIGH LEOPARDS coach Adrian Lam has admitted that his star winger Josh Charnley could play on another season.
Charnley scored four tries in Leigh’s 40-16 win at Toulouse Olympique, a day after his 35th birthday.
That took him to 20 Super League tries for the season and extended the competition record he recently broke to 276.
“It was a great performance from Josh Charnley with four tries,” said Lam.
“He’s off-contract at the moment for next year and he was 35 yesterday so happy birthday to Josh.
“He’s been scoring a lot of tries down our right-hand side lately and I’m very pleased with that because the players inside of him are creating that for him.
“Adam Cook has improved and is very influential now on that right-hand side and Josh is on the end of that so I’m very grateful.
“On Josh, he’s the all-time record try-scorer with four more tries today. He’s very professional in his preparation, he trains hard – one of the best trainers – so maybe he can play another year.”
On the overall victory, Lam added: “The conditions were difficult, 40 degrees I believe before kick-off, and it made me nervous for our players because it’s very dangerous and we’re not used to that.
“It maybe favoured Toulouse a little, but Toulouse probably made too many mistakes to put pressure on in that heat.
“It was important for us to start well which was a part of our game plan and we did that.
“We also know that Toulouse can come from behind in a game so we addressed that.”
