PAUL VAUGHAN is counting down the days until his York Knights debut – and revealed he’s contemplating venturing into coaching.
The Aussie star is the newly-promoted club’s main signing ahead of their maiden Super League season.
Former Kangaroos prop Vaughan, 34, joined from Warrington Wolves and hopes to be unleashed in their opener against Hull KR.
Talking to League Express, he said: “Some of the boys had a run around last weekend against Huddersfield and they were better for that.
“Obviously, it’s just about getting them out there and testing their lungs but also getting some good lessons in.
“I’d like a run before round one and we have Barrow in the Challenge Cup.
“But I’ll see how I’m travelling for that and take it from there.
“It’s obviously an exciting time for the club. They’ve been very successful with the Knights and Valkyrie the last couple of seasons and now we’re getting ready for Super League.
“There’s a really good group of players here, a lot of talent. And that Hull KR game, which looks like selling out, should be great as an opener.”
Vaughan signed a two-year deal with York, which would likely see him out until the end of his career.
The ex-New South Wales State of Origin ace has started thinking about what he’ll do post-playing.
He said: “Previously, I don’t think that I was really too keen to do any coaching.
“But now I’ve been around for a bit, I am pretty interested in doing some sort of junior development.
“I think that would be really beneficial for me as well, just to pass on knowledge, not only to the boys here but also the juniors, to help get them ready for junior reps or a professional environment.
“Whether that be here or back home, I’m very open to it.
“I’d like to stay in the game in some sort of aspect when I do finish.
“But I’m just excited to be getting going with York right now.”
