CONNOR ROBINSON is ready to take goals to Newcastle as Doncaster plot further play-off progress.

Richard Horne’s side head north from south Yorkshire aiming to quieten Thunder on Tyneside tomorrow (Saturday, September 26, 5.00) and book a Championship Grand Final berth against London Broncos or Oldham.

And halfback Robinson (pictured) will be central to their plans to get the better of the team who finished second in the table.

He has kicked 135 goals in league and play-off games, of which Doncaster, who were fourth, have had three so far.

Doncaster forward Muizz Mustapha saluted Robinson after the 31-year-old’s run of successful kicks from the tee finally ended at 58.

The 31-year-old set a new known first-class record of 52 with his twelve as Barrow Raiders were thumped 72-0 in the first stage of the play-offs.

There was a one-from-one return in the 42-6 defeat at London, then Robinson slotted his first five attempts in the rematch with Barrow, this time beaten 56-12, again at Doncaster, in a sudden-death tie.

But after James Glover’s first try of the contest on 45 minutes, the former Hull KR, Halifax Panthers and York Knights man was wide.

Robinson also missed after Glover’s follow-up score before putting over his next two efforts, the second of those when Mustapha touched down on 69 minutes.

Like Edene Gebbie and Glover, Mustapha also finished with a double, but following his 79th-minute try, Robinson stood aside to let Reece Lyne take over the kicking duties on his last home appearance before retirement.

Mustapha told Doncaster’s social-media channels: “Connor is amazing – he can kick them from all over the pitch.

“He always looks comfortable, and we know that more often than not, he will add those extra points, and that’s a big thing for us.”

Newcastle have had one play-off tie so far, beating Widnes Vikings 34-16 at Blaydon.
