Restall relieved to return to pitch after ‘tough’ Hurricanes campaign

BIRMINGHAM HURRICANES back Owen Restall says returning to the pitch with Wales has been a fantastic end to what has been a “tough” campaign.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Hurricanes from Halifax ahead of the season, scored seven tries in three appearances for his new side – including a record-breaking five on debut in the Challenge Cup win over Aberavon Fighting Irish – before seeing his season cut short by injury.

But he returned in style for Wales in their Celtic Cup warm-up match against the USA last weekend, scoring the third of his country’s tries in the 44-12 victory in Merthyr Tydfil.

“It was amazing to be back out there,” admitted Restall, who established himself as a proven try scorer in previous spells with both Dewsbury and Oldham.

“I’m really pleased to be back on the pitch, whether that be for Birmingham or for Wales.

“It has been a tough season for me personally, and a tough year for me, so I’m just glad to be out there.

“It was a goal for me when I knew how long I was going to be out for to be able to try and get something in before the year’s out, so I’m just really pleased to be able to be out there now.”
